great Mexican meal.
Monday Morning begins with coffee, a tropical breakfast and a visit to the local square of this typical Mexican town. This morning you’ll explore the ancient temples and pyramids of the pre-Hispanic site of Zempoala. After lunch we’re off to the exotic beach of Chachalacas for swimming, beachcombing, relaxing and some fine seafood tonight in an open-air restaurant.
Tuesday
Whitewater! Our first river action begins on the Rio Actopan, a
beautiful and very tropical river. You’ll encounter over 10 miles of
continuous and action packed class II and III rapids. It’s a late lunch
today with our friend Poncho at his riverside café. This evening you will
find yourself in the city of Jalapa for a night of fun, food and
music.
Wednesday High excitement today as we run the challenging
Pescados section of the Rio Antigua. This difficult section has continuous
class IV whitewater with big drops and waves. This is a great day on the
river, one you will be sure to remember.
Thursday Whitewater action continues on the Rio Antigua with over 14 miles of class III and IV rapids. You’ll end your river journey today at Carrizal, with relaxing riverside hot springs, an open-air restaurant overlooking the river and a small hotel. This is a spectacular day of rafting followed by a wonderful evening along the river.
Friday Your river journey today is six miles of class II and III rapids and ends at a remote village along the river. You will travel to an off the beaten path beach and our hotel for the night at Boca de Ovejas. We’ll celebrate our river journey in a wonderful tropical setting along the Emerald Coast.
Saturday This morning we depart for the riverside
village of La Antigua, the place where Cortez landed in 1519. Here you can
explore the fort Cortes built and the very early Ermita del Rosario
church. Lunch is excellent and at a very festive riverside restaurant.
After lunch we make our way to the very exotic and the Caribbean like city
of Veracruz. The city of Veracruz is Mexico’s most festive city and our
hotel tonight is on the square with all the action. Tonight the square
becomes a carnival atmosphere with live music, acrobats, vendors, dancers
and an array of entertainment and food that last in the late hours.
Sunday After our farewell breakfast the trip will return this morning to the Veracruz airport for flights home.
